The Church and the World

I recently read a book called “Why Nations Fail.” One of the things the authors discovered is that nations with more believers generally fail more than nations without believers. Their explanation was that the nations that have more believers have an other-world mindedness. They are trying to escape out of this world and have no intention of impacting this world. While they are here, their minds are elsewhere. Their energies are elsewhere. They are not productive citizens where they are.

While the Bible teaches us that we are citizens of another country, it also clearly emphasizes that we are in this world. We have been placed here by God for a purpose: to contribute and impact.

Could it be that we are too heavenly minded that we are of no earthly good?
